4. Business Conferences. If you’ve been meaning to do some meet-and-greets as a way of boosting your career, here’s some added incentive: Business conferences and seminars are filled with smart, ambitious men with whom you can talk shop. “Strike up a conversation around your mutual business interests, then ask ‘How did you get to where you are today?’ You’ll learn about his path of life so far, including education and goals,” says Nina Atwood, author of Be Your Own Dating Service: A Step-by-Step Guide to Finding and Maintaining Healthy Relationships (Henry Holt, 1996). Just be sure to check his left hand for a ring or tell-tale tan line. “Business events often include a certain number of men who are looking for an extra-marital fling,” says Atwood.
The trick to attracting men is to make sure you value all the other areas of your life (for example your job, your family, your friends, your hobbies, etc) just as highly as you value having a man in your life.
Get over your fear of rejection. The fear of rejection can be a powerful emotion that prevents you from putting yourself out there and finding a man. Rejection can cause someone physical and emotional pain, and past experiences may shape how you see your current relationships in a negative way. To reduce fears of rejection, make sure you aren’t investing too much emotionally into one moment. Another way to get over the fear of rejection is to desensitize yourself to it over time. That is, introduce yourself to many men and get used to rejection occasionally. Gradual exposure is a common treatment for people who have phobias or people with anxiety.
All relationships, including romantic ones, are based on social exchange (Kelly & Thibaut, 1978). In other words, beyond the feelings, we enter into relationships to trade. We meet the needs of others – and they meet our needs back. Give and take…
Verely; what you did wrong telling this guy you liked him is you were too easy. You have to find a way to attract a man to you, by being friendly, flirtatious maybe, but you don’t just give yourself to him.
Preening goes back to taking up your space – sort of, but it’s a highly female thing to do. Men truly love seeing a woman preen a little, not in an overly obvious or vulgar way. Ever. Good preening requires subtlety. No need to overdo it. You’re simply “smoothing your feathers.” Indeed, preening gets to the heart of flirting and in creating an aura of mystique.
If you want to get a guy, then you need to give him a clear invitation. I know he seems big, burly, and scary. But, he is actually looking to you for a “green light” to come over and say hello. Some eye contact and a smile will do that. So, if you want him to approach, lock eyes and give him a grin.
Keeping up a conversation: It would be a blessing if you can keep up a conversation other than just saying “hmmmm”, “k” etc. Please for God’s sake read some books, read the newspaper, contribute to the conversation. We need not Discuss International Taxation, Monetary policy, fiscal policy or Politics, but atleast you should be able to talk about the regular stuff in our life, like Cricket 😉
You probably don’t realize it, but your advice here is the same as a toothpaste ad which has been running on tee-vee recently. It shows a youngish woman by herself at some beach-side patio cafe who spots a guy there she wants to meet. It shows her passively sitting there with her Cinderella Complex looking all wistful/dreamy, and with a vague smile on her face, while the voice-over says “First, you’ve got to get him to say Hello”.
Secondly, I cannot tolerate woman who think they are the center of the universe. There is nothing wrong with being confident, and I find confidence very attractive AT THE RIGHT TIME, but what woman must understand is that men naturally want to lead. Woman who are too boisterous and opinionated really repulse me. There needs to be a good balance there too. My personal opinion and experience with girls that are overly loud, is that they are VERY insecure. It is a major turnoff.
I’ve been looking into things to keep my marriage solid, and I figured I should keep him attracted to me. I ended up here. You reminded me of just how important confidence is! He used to tell me all the time when we started dating how much he loved my confidence. Love these tips! 🙂
Make a vow to never be cheap with yourself ever again. Ignore prices on menus. Stop waiting for sales. Invest in yourself at the highest level possible, whatever that looks like for you. Don’t be irresponsible with your finances, but stop denying yourself pleasures that will make you feel special and successful. You are both.
First off, you have to be sure your friend is gay or bi, or he won’t want to have sex with you at all. If that’s the case, communication is key. Be frank and serious about it, but also make sure he knows that you’ll be gentle and let him set the pace. Make sure he feels safe, secure, and relaxed with you.
One “striking” finding, to borrow the report’s own word, was a very strong connection between a man’s relationship satisfaction and his frequency of physical intimacy. Not physical intimacy as in sex, but physical intimacy as in kissing, cuddling, and general, not necessarily sexual, caressing. The odds of a man being happy in his relationship increased by a factor of three if he snuggled up regularly.
I agree with this article mostly a few things I don’t agree with but everyone has there own opinion. I haven’t been single since I was 14 and let me tell you 14 and 15 I didn’t have anyone to be that serious with me because I acted to tomboyish I thought that was what guys liked plus I was still pretty imature. Before I go any further, I just wanted to say yes I sometimes think to myself I wish I would of gave single a chance more often in my life instead of being so young and boy crazy but I wouldn’t take it back any of it because it did make me learn what type of man I wanted after dating boys, it made me realize what type of man I wanted in the long run. I turned 16 I started to act more cute, flirty and girly and I started to get the guys I wanted instantly. Now I am 23 and I have the man of my dreams he is HOT! caring sweet understanding and still at the same time very manly I love it I never thought this kind of man existed I thought men like him were too snooty and had there eyes closed so why would they notice a women like me. I was always a social butterfly. 6 months ago I found this man and I couldn’t believe how he just fell completly head over heels for me. I am alot more girly now adays where I am flirty but with him smiling and laughing all the time and I show my girly side, but I also love to go fishing and out doorsy and don’t mind doing guy things with him and he really loves that about him. He is very thoughtful on top of being a hottie I have always had men be rude to me in my past maybe because I have a little insecurity or just need someone to talk to so I’d call a best friend to talk or my mom so I could talk and wouldn’t make them mad. Now I have a partner who is my best friend and the person I need to talk with and it’s fantastic. If I feel a little insecure he’s loving to me he understands I am just afraid at times the relationships going to disapear or change and it’s because it still feels like a dream because he is my dream come true so it’s like I just feel as if anyone pinches me to wake me up from this dream I am going to rip there heads off he he jk lol! but seriously I couldn’t believe I am the first women he has ever moved in with because he’s never been this serious with anyone where he wanted a life with them and that makes me feel very lucky since he has been with a various of women and could of chose any of them but its like once he found me he knew exactly what he wanted a family a life time with me. so like I said I believe this article because I have lived it.
Response: What good is accepting something that is a failure? How effective is bringing out the best in something that is a failure? No one is perfect nor can someone be perfect. Listen, turn him into what you want him to be, but, do it right. The process won’t always work because some people are to ignorant to believe that they should be better for you, but if they are willing, then it is possible. The thing is you aren’t perfect either, but relationships are all about two individuals benefiting each other. This means that you both are going to mold each other, although, one may be making more of an impact than the other.
Odour – Girls should smell nice. It’s as simple as that. We all have difficult moments but the one thing I can say about my mum, and my one and only long-term girlfriend, is that they a/ never smelt of BO, and b/ never left a stink in the bathroom. I lived with a German girl last year for a while and going in the bathroom after her was like visiting Chernobyl. Seriously.
“One of the ironies of the day is how proficient so many women are at choosing men who communicate poorly by assuming those men who are most responsive to the female’s ‘signals’ provide the best relationships.”
Anyway, again, you were cheating — even with a guy who you’re not all that sexually attracted to. There’s never an attraction measuring stick to determine whether it’s cheating or not. You wouldn’t have wanted the same situation on your LD Boyfriend’s end. At all.
This article is perfect…evn i m an Asian girl and i am naturally feminine……..that cutness, shyness, kindness, coyness is in build in me and for which i am loved by many. Evn though i am not in relationship but i am in search for a manly boy……and for those girls who are disagreeing let me tell u either you are frustated by yourself or jealous of other that you don’t have that femininty……bcoz this is wat the boys love the most
I appreciate that this book is about subtle nuances too. Often we don’t know what we do wrong because it’s not anything big but a subtle signal, and we don’t know why our positive signals are ignored & that’s because they are TOO subtle. This advice rang true because I’ve noted men in general communicate more with action & are generally MORE sensitive than women, meaning they need LOUDER positive signals & SOFTER negative ones. The author refers to this as the “fragile male ego” which is really SENSITIVITY.

If you have trouble attracting men and getting a date, you may be unknowingly sending vibes that push men away. Men think differently than women, so you have to understand how the male psyche works …
Quirks: Every person has a quirk. And your quirk may make you more adorable. Maybe how your twirl your hair when thinking, twitch your eyes when nervous, or the way you sigh cutely……those do attract men who aren’t looking for plastic toys to play with.
Too much, or badly applied, make-up – If we can notice it, it’s too much. A natural look will always win the day. And the worst thing is those lines on a girl’s jaw line when she hasn’t applied the foundation properly. I once went on a first date with a girl who had flaky bit of make-up on the bridge of her nose between the eyes. It was like kissing a pasty.
Be sure to attract a decent guy though. It pains me to see a decent girl ending up with a worthless man. Women can do so much better than settle down with a worthless man. Women are independent and they can do their own thing. We don’t need a worthless man in our lives. We need a man that will complement us. We need a man that would go the extra mile just to make ends meet. We want a partner for life, not a liability. Let’s take a stand for all the independent women in the world. They deserve better men.

A subsequent study led by Eastwick confirmed that men don’t always recognize what they want in a woman. The researchers asked male participants to list a few traits they like in a lady. Then some of them had a brief, live interaction with a female who matched these interests, while others had a similar interaction with someone who didn’t.
Many women treat men in ways that diminish their egos, making them feel inadequate. Men would rather have more praise, more acknowledgment of what they do right, and more acknowledgment that they are great guys who are loved and appreciated. Women think men do not need them, and do not value their opinion, their support, or their praise. Women also think men do not care about many things that are important to women, which is why they criticize. Criticism can be a way to verbalize resentment.
If you’ve ever fallen hard for someone in the early stages of crushes and dating, you know the most frustrating — and the greatest — thing about it can be trying to gain their attention and earn their returned love. You want to prove yourself as someone worthy of their time and affection, but it’s never just as easy as casting a magic spell to make it all go well, is it?
Some people keep dating the wrong kind of guy or gal because they fall for the scarcity trap. They keep chasing what they cannot have. Sometimes this is an ego thing (“I’m going to show him how good I am!”). Other times, it is a low self-esteem thing (“what do I have to do to get her to love me?”). In either case, however, they mistake this partner’s disinterest and scarcity for actual value.
Unfortunately men can pick up on the signs, but the good news is there are many things you can do about it which means that before you know it, you will have attractive men throwing themselves at you just by applying some simple tips.
It amazes me to hear women go down a list of the treatment they expect, places they want to wine and dine, trips they want to go on and pampering they want to receive. Yet they skimp and don’t invest in doing these things for themselves. Boggles the mind!
If you focus on being in the best possible mood you can be while you’re around him, your vibe will automatically be good. And when your vibe is good, he’ll feel good around you – which he needs in order to want to be around you more.
Well, hello brake12. It’s true that some women are naturals. The good news is that good habits can be learned with enough commitment. It’s worth the extra effort–for sure!. Also, Aubrey, I thank you for pinning. I’m delighted that you enjoyed the hub.
A downside: the book directs you to online videos for more “secrets” which are really just teasers which lead you to another video they want you to pay for. I can see this as being an endless goose chase designed to keep you hooked & shelling out money while learning very little. I’d have more respect for the author & brand if they took a less scam-like approach. The video they want you to buy has a long intro to sell it which does the classic “play on women’s insecurities & promise grand secrets to solve all of their romance problems in a matter of days” approach, one which many dating gurus do. I find it borderline insulting & I naturally expect it to under-deliver with super obvious “insight” repeated ad nauseam just as the rest seem to. This approach is unfortunate & detracts from a brand that has the potential to be more positive & actually useful, as opposed to the insulting junk I described at the outset.
Here is some great news for those women who are resigned to the myth that all men cheat — infidelity and “a roaming eye” are as distasteful to men as they are to women. Great men know how to build a wonderful relationship, and they know fidelity is the main ingredient.
But I never quite know how to make it happen. Although I’m a friendly person, I’m definitely on the shy side about making the first move. All you braver ladies out there who can do it, I salute you. But for those of us that are a little more reserved, how do you get the guys to come to you?
Rewrite your online dating profile from scratch; working with a blank page will get you thinking about what you really want. Then keep it updated, often—Casey, also Match.com’s relationships expert, says to keep it active, like your Facebook profile. “You change your résumé for every job—so you should be changing your online profile picture to show you on a recent ski trip, or talk about the newest movie you’ve seen. You need to be putting things out there that people will respond to, not just ‘Looking for someone with great eyes.'” And if you’ve yet to take the online dating plunge, c’mon, it’s 2013: The stigma is so 2008.
The solution – getting over the past and learning to see clearly. Not everybody out there is a jerk, no matter what has happened in the past. In fact, most people are decent and looking for love. Rather than expecting the worst, it is more productive to look for what is different and better. That is the only way to find it!
You may think the root of this is about money, but it’s really linked to something much deeper. It’s about someone else’s limitations on what they think they cannot have—or do not deserve. It really is about how much you feel you are worth. It is about how much you feel you deserve.
The meaning of the finding, Ackerman and colleagues report in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, turns on the commitment continuum. In subsequent tests, the researchers discovered that short-term guys felt a decrease in happiness when women declared “I love you” after sex. They’d said it first to score quickly, the finding suggests, and then, having scored, began to realize what they’d done.
In 1533 or 1534 Süleyman married Hürrem in a magnificent formal ceremony, making him the first Ottoman Sultan in 200 years to marry his concubine. Never before was a former slave elevated to the status of the sultan’s lawful spouse, much to the astonishment of observers in the palace and in the city. Hürrem also received the title Haseki Sultan and became the first consort to hold this title. This title, used for a century, reflected the great power of imperial consorts (most of them were former slaves) in the Ottoman court, elevating their status higher than Ottoman princesses, and making them the equals of empresses consort in Europe. Hürrem’s salary was 2,000 aspers a day, making her one of the highest paid hasekis.
To some degree, notions of male simplicity persist, despite growing evidence to the contrary, due to the very nature of masculinity. A recent series of experiments described in Current Directions in Psychological Science conclude that manhood is both elusive and tenuous. In one experiment, test participants associated the loss of manhood with social, impermanent things, like letting someone down, as opposed to physical things, like growing weak with age. So manhood must be earned by demonstration, and it must be demonstrated repeatedly, until we’ve shielded our vulnerability behind a haze of one-dimensional sexuality.
Any one know where I can meet a man like mr. Platts in the Denver area? Lol I’m seriously horrible at going out to “find that guy”. Mainly because I have a job and an almost 2 year old. Men show me their interested but they usually only want one thing.. Any suggestions?? People says men find single mothers attractive but where are these men at???
This is a great post. I have always noticed when I would go out with some of my friends how their behavior would change around men. I always tried to tell them to relax.I definitely agree about the not talking about your exes. Not only have I heard my friends do it, but I used to have this problem too. Great advice. Love the post. I am sharing this with all my girl friends.
i THINK THAT it depends on situations ,i was before an easyging smiling ,positive woman, but Alot haVE HURT ME , AND I WILL BE NOT AS THE SAME AS BEFORE ANY MORE , I MUST FIRST ANALYSE THE PERSON AND THEN MAKE A DECISION IF I SHOULD TREAT HIM GOOD OR NOT
